Dan Fields Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to the Blog!

I am a San Diego based portrait, wedding and cultural photographer. I enjoy spending time looking for and finding the images that help convey the most compelling and meaningful emotions....those special moments that matter....

I am committed to using the highest end cameras, prime lenses and cutting edge software on the market today....allowing me to use my creativity to capture the image you are thrilled with. I just love it when someone says "Oh my....that is just incredible!"  or "How in the world did you create that?!" or even "That is the best picture anyone has ever taken of me!"

I find great joy in discovering those things that are just below the surface, revealing how special a person you really are....everyone has it, you know...the small details....the special smile....the way the light hits her face and hair, in only the way that it can.....the sweet look of your child that expresses a feeling that only you really understand.  I want to tell your story....one that can be told to your children....and their children.  I want to help you create the real memories.  Life moves way too fast....we need an important and beautiful record of it.  It would be an honor to create this for you and yours.

I also find purpose in shining the light where I believe it should be shown.....showing those hearts, the love, and even the pain that exists in this world.  There is a solution I believe, and it is a joy to look for them in the shadows...

Darkness exists only in the absence of light....Dan Fields

The Mikey Show!

Had a great time shooting the crew for The Mikey Show.  What an incredible group of people.  I ended up shooting Mikey and the crew (Jay, Woods, Serena and Lauren) at an old fashioned car wash in Encinitas and in an alley behind the car wash.  We had some cool available light and then I killed the harsh day light with a two light strobe set up…..some real fun!

The new Mikey Show starts this Monday in San Diego on FM 94.9…..the home of the hottest morning radio show in Southern California, now that Mikey has made the move.  Please check them out each morning.  You can bet that you will laugh and have a great time getting to know the lives of these just super cool people.

Enjoy a few of the images from the shoot…..

Mikey's Tats...

My Girls at the Beach….

OK….my wife and I finally nailed down a time to shoot her and the girls at the beach.  Amazing that we (photogs) rarely make time to shoot our own families, but I got to today!  We had a blast with the girls at Ponto Beach a few minutes from where we live…..great sunset…..rocks…..  Darby is the blonde….11 years old and growing fast…..Savannah is the 8 year old.  They are flanked by an amazing mother, Whitney….very pretty girl I might add!

(This shoot was very technically challenging and fun since most of these shots were taken by using a professional strobe light and umbrella with a portable battery pack….this allowed me to expose the background how I wanted and fill the light on the girls as well)

Our beautiful two girls....Savannah and Darby

Swamis….

Had a great morning of shooting the guys as they welcome Swamis into the New Year.  The colors were amazing…..sun rising over my left shoulder and into the break….just a great time of capturing these amazing colors and surfers.

The swell started off crazy….thick….mushy, even looked like they were surfing in milk at times.   There were several out there shredding the entire morning….I even think I saw Johnny Utah and Bhodi out there……

Enjoy the images!

John Cobian (of Cobian Sandles) enjoying the waves....

Welcome 2010…..

I woke up unusually early this morning, thinking about too many things…..wondering what new things will come from this new year.   I drove down to the bay in San Diego hoping to catch a few sunrise shots.  As I was driving up I started to see the beginning of the most amazing sunrise I had ever seen…..one that can’t be described in words….

Here are a few shots of what I experienced this morning.  I also am including tonight’s sunset from the house.  I thought it would be a great bookend for such a beautiful day….a new day…..for a new year….

San Diego Skyline Sunrise.....no post processing.....all shutter speed at f/22......

And an amazing sunset from the house overlooking Rancho Carrillo, La Costa and the Pacific Ocean....
